settlement for estate of mother of two
On March 5, 2005, Anna Wenstrup, a single parent of two teenage children, underwent a left breast mastectomy followed by a breast reconstructive procedure at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
The plan was to discharge Ms. Wenstrup several days following the surgeries, but she experienced abdominal distension as well as nausea and vomiting, so she was kept in the hospital.
On March 10, 11, and 12, 2005, abdominal x-rays were taken showing a small bowel obstruction. On March 13, 2005, a CT scan was performed which showed evidence of a hernia in the right anterior abdominal wall at the site of her previous surgery.
Ms. Wenstrup was returned to surgery on the 13th for an exploratory laparotomy. The following day her condition deteriorated, and she passed away. The cause of death listed on the death certificate was septic shock.
Meyers & Flowers represented Ms. Wenstrup’s estate, and reached a confidential settlement with the general surgeon and the plastic surgeon who treated her.
