As a personal injury law firm dedicated to safeguarding the rights of consumers, it is our duty to remain vigilant about potential hazards posed by everyday products. Recently, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall warning for Berkley Jensen Citronella candles sold at BJ's Wholesale Club, which have been identified as a burn hazard. In this blog, we delve into the details of this recall and emphasize why such alerts are crucial for consumer safety.
The Recall
Berkley Jensen Citronella candles, marketed as a solution to repel insects during outdoor activities, have unfortunately been found to pose a significant risk of burns. The CPSC issued a recall notice after receiving multiple reports of the candles unexpectedly breaking or catching fire during use. These incidents have resulted in injuries, highlighting the urgency of removing these products from circulation.
Affected Units
This product recall pertains to Berkley Jensen Citronella 72-inch Tiki Torches, which were retailed at BJ's Wholesale Club. These Tiki Torches measure either five inches in width and 72 inches in height, or six inches in width and 72 inches in height when mounted on a wrought iron stake. The torches were accompanied by copper-plated, nickel-plated, black, or gray tops and featured a fiberglass wick.
The citronella candles were sold exclusively at BJ's Wholesale Club locations nationwide and online at www.bjs.com from January 2015 through November 2023 for about $13. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled tiki torches and contact BJ's Wholesale Club for a full refund.
