Meyers & Flowers trial attorney Craig D. Brown obtained a $406,00.00 settlement on behalf of an elderly driver who was seriously injured in a Wheaton, IL crash.
On the afternoon of June 18, 2021, 90-year-old Cheryl was driving her Toyota Camry westbound along Harrison Avenue when the Defendant failed to stop at the intersection, failed to yield to the right-of-way and struck Cheryl’s vehicle. The responding paramedics used extraction tools to remove Cheryl out of the car. As a result of the crash, Cheryl sustained multiple contusions, rib fractures and several other internal injuries that required a hospital stay and months of occupational and physical therapy.
Despite her mature age, Cheryl was in good health and lived independently prior to the crash. Sadly, Cheryl lost much of her independence because she continues to suffer from numbness and pain in her left leg which prevents her from walking significant distances without assistance.
After Meyers & Flowers filed suit, the Defense tried to diminish the extent of Cheryl’s injuries, devalued her case due to her older age, and proposed a low settlement offer. The initial offer would have only covered her medical expenses and provided little to compensate her for damages, failing to consider her pain and suffering, loss of normal life and emotional damage.
Conversely, Craig Brown argued his client’s mature age was a key component in a higher value settlement as her independence was taken away from her in the later years of her life. After weeks of protracted negotiations, attorney Brown was able to secure a $406,000.00 shortly after filing suit. Mr. Brown worked tirelessly to resolve Cheryl’s case withing a year of the crash which allowed Cheryl to utilize her settlement funds to improve the quality of her life.
